"11/7/87 is arguably the best SBD Joshua show. There are several different productions of this recording (Enjoy, Mountains in a Blue Sky, Mountains and Deserts Remastered, Caught On 35mm, etc). Well, this version (Platinum Ed) is the cream of the crop in my opinion. This version was remastered directly from a copy of Mountains and Deserts.

"Most improvements include: removal of oodles of clicks and pops, smooth transition between tracks where possible, patching in a couple of missing seconds in October, making Star Spangled Banner
its own track, better equalization of "40". There's a peak of treble at ~15,800Hz. This is normally not a problem whatsoever unless you crank your treble up (which you shouldn't do!). I ended up not
removing this band of treble. Most people have different opinions on which version of 11/7/87 is the "best"; "Mountains and Deserts Remastered" is very good; well this is my interpretation of the best;
if you don't find it to your liking, you can always just delete it now can't you? Truly, a grade A+ full-show SBD recording from the Joshua Tree tour - can't go wrong with this."

"Second of two nights in Los Angeles JEMS recorded (we also did San Diego a couple days later; still looking for the part two master) and not without problems, though this tape isn't as bad as I once thought. First, my seats were halfway back on the side in the next to last row, though the Sports Arena is so small by today's arena standards, that would only be half way up at Staples. Second, the introduction of a 110 min. metal tape seemed like a godsend for tapers, but it turned out that at least on our D6 (and I've heard others had this problem too), if the deck wasn't held in the right position, it struggled to pull that much tape through across the heads properly. Hence the problems with this tape, where the first two songs on side one of the master and the first song on side two flutter in and out. By "Even Better" on side one and the middle of "Bullet" on side two, the problem corrects itself, and from there on out this is a good if somewhat distant recording. I've included samples below of both the fluttery portion and normal part. Because of the flutter issues, I don't think I ever traded this tape, as I always believed it effected more of the recording, not just 2.5 songs. "This was a night to remember, I had a smokin hot date, good seats free ( I worked for a Columbia, MO radio station) and it was my first overnight roadtrip with a date. I spilled hot chocholate on my brand new white Nikes, and for years I would look at the brown stain and fondly remember that night. The weather was freezing at one point my date is heard saying "It's freezing" the batteries suffered with the temperatures as well, which is why the recording is incomplete. The next day the KC Star article was titled "U2 Warms Crowd on Chilly Night" The Chiefs (NFL) were playing at Dallas, losing 17–10, the game was on the "ZooTV" screens before the show started. There is a complete version of this night circulating, I believe parts of a 2nd-3rd gen copy of this recording are used to fill the gaps. "

TheTooleMan Notes on Remaster:
"This is the only unreleased soundboard recording of the Symphonic tour that I have found. The raw recording favors the orchestra, and the guitar and keyboard parts are hard to hear.
The master improves the mix with EQ and dynamics processing. The original master of this show was done using Sound Forge. The tape I received had tracks Perpetual Change and And You And I in the wrong sequence, and my first master carried this error forward. My copy of the recording did not include the two Steve Howe solo tracks. The ones I downloaded recently from EZT sound like an audience recording. Forgotten Yesterdays documents a soundboard and an audience recording, but I suspect the Steve Howe tracks are missing from all versions of the soundboard.
Nonetheless, I inserted the audience tracks in the 2005 remaster. The SHN file of disk two, track five (Starship Trooper) was apparently corrupted in the copy of the files torrented on EZT. This version resolves all of these problems". TheTooleMan. (February, 2005)

"The setlist is based on PG´s first and second albums, plus the closing with The Lamb. The musicians that contributed on both albums are here, Larry “Synergy” Fast on keyboards providing the atmospherics (listen to the intro), Levin the master of the bass and stick in conjunction with Marotta giving a strong rhythmic base, John Ellis on guitar is the least known member, this gig and another one with Peter Hamill have been his more important milestones. And of course, there´s Robert Fripp. What else can be said about the master? I was very curious when I learned that Fripp was playing in the 1st Gabriel album (eventually on the 2nd and 3rd as well). Anyway, this collaboration worked both ways (Levin began working with KC shortly after these gigs and made his first appearance in the 1981 Discipline album).

This concert is pure Gabriel energy, starting with a strong “On the Air”, following with the Genesis-like “Moribund the Burgermeister” (would have fit in the Lamb, I think), then on to a great “Perspective” where Levin and Marotta kick asses. The credits don´t mention the sax player who makes a great solo. Then, a Gabriel standard up to these days “Here comes the flood”. This ballad sounds a bit different here thanks to the mysterious sax player again. Following is my favourite from this concert, “White Shadow” with a synth intro by Fast that blends with the rhythm section. This is a great song that seldom appears in Gabriel live cds. A bit of Frippertronics at the end. “Waiting for the big one”, the longest track, features Gabriel on piano and vocals swimming on non familiar waters (blues by the way), there is an interesting duel between the guitar and the sax (Timmy Capello from what I hear Gabriel introducing the musicians). “Humdrum” represents a period where PG hadn’t completely separated from the prog influence of his Genesis days. Then a track that represents the complete opposite “I don’t remember” makes you want to get up and dance. Another survivor in today’s PG concerts is “Solsbury Hill”, nothing special to comment. “Modern love” is full of pure Gabriel force that we miss so much nowadays". (suhas89)

"Thanks to all the tapers. All the sources sound really good, and even better when mixed together. I have a new appreciation for Adam's Bass work. There are little bits of static here and there on the IEM, not to bad, very listenable. I did a bit of EQ on all tracks. I also cleaned up a lot of the audience noise that was very distinct (clapping, yelling, etc) where I thought it was needed. When Bono is talking right before Unknown Caller, the IEM is absent for just the speech, it is there the rest of the show. Don't ask me what happened to it, I never had that 10-15 seconds on the source I was working with. This is the third take I did of this show. The Metronome is most present on this take than the other 2 I did. The reason I put it on this one is because you'd get a really annoying drone like sound when it was just the metronome and audience noise. It gave me a headache, so I put the 3-10Hz bands back in the mix, and it sounds pretty good now. I also made the covers if anyone cares. Enjoy, Don't Sell ANYWHERE, and please share lossless only". 'Did I Let You Know' was played twice as on the first take Anthony's mic was not properly working. 'Brendan's Death Song', 'Annie Wants A Baby', 'Happiness Loves Company', 'Police Station' and 'Dance, Dance, Dance' were played live for the first time. Some jams where played also. Frankenstein is a cover jam by Edgar Winter. This concert was broadcast live in cinemas all over the world."

German radio station 1Live transmitted 15 songs of the show, leaving out the jams, most of the band's verbal interaction with the crowd as well as the first take of 'Did I Let You Know'.

"Un altro momento dei ricordi fornito da Lorenzo Costantini. Le testimonianze dei concerti degli anni 70 sono preziose e immagino che il racconto delle numerose esperienze di Lorenzo suciteranno qualche nostalgia e qualche piccola invidia. Palasport, 1 febbraio 1972. Fu un grande concerto, forse uno dei più grandi dei Jethro Tull, esiste un bootleg che lo testimonia inequivocabilmente. Se il concerto al Brancaccio di Roma del ’71, era servito per rompere il ghiaccio con il pubblico romano, il concerto del Palasport segnò la crescita e la maturità artistica dei Jethro, già evidente in Aqualung e consacrata poi in Thick as a Brick, di cui i Jethro eseguirono il #4 (the poet and the painter…….). Suonarono alla grande con un repertorio e un sound molto “progressive” e fortemente innovativo. Il pubblico romano rimase sorpreso e incantato, e dedicò loro una interminabile ovazione. Il ricordo che rimane impresso è di alcuni “folletti” scatenati che con grande energia e assoluta precisione dominavano il palco del Palaeur suonando una grande musica. Infatti quel concerto decretò il grande successo e seguito che ebbero poi i Gentle Giant in tutta Italia. Ai Jethro Tull l’unica possibilità che rimaneva era di superarsi, e lo fecero, con una grinta e una spettacolarità uniche e irripetibili, anche a dispetto dell’acustica del Palasport, tristemente famoso per i suoi echi e i suoi rimbombi. Ma quella sera l’impianto WEM e gli ampli Hi-Watt fecero il miracolo: suono potente e presente come non si era mai sentito e in tutti gli ordini dei posti (il Palasport era stracolmo). L’Hammond era un leone infuriato che ruggiva sotto le mani di John Evan, che saltava da una parte all’altra del palco. Martin Barre, che ogni tanto era preso da “raptus” improvvisi, imbracciava la sua Gibson Les Paul “urlante” come non mai. Ian lanciava in aria il suo flauto, sempre più in alto, e lo riprendeva quasi fosse ammaestrato. Jeffrey andava su e giù sul palco come una belva in gabbia. Another moment of memories provided by Lorenzo Costantini. The testimonies of the 70 concerts are precious and I imagine that the story of the many experiences of Lorenzo the above-stated some nostalgia and some little envy. Sports Hall, February 1, 1972: It was a great concert, maybe one of the largest of Jethro Tull, there is a bootleg that demonstrates unequivocally (nt: this one). If the concert at Rome's Brancaccio '71, had served to break the ice with the Roman public, the concert marked the Sports Hall of growth and artistic maturity of Jethro, already evident in Aqualung and Thick as a consecrated later in Brick, the Jethro performed where the # 4 (the poet and the painter ... ....). They played great with a repertoire and a sound very "progressive" and highly innovative. The Roman audience was surprised and charmed, and they spent an interminable ovation. The memory that lingers is of some "elves" that unleashed with great energy and absolute precision of Palaeur dominated the stage playing great music. In fact, decreed that concert later that they had great success and then the Gentle Giant throughout Italy. Jethro Tull to the only option left was to outdo, and they did, with a spectacular drive and a unique and unrepeatable, even in spite of the acoustics of the indoor stadium, notorious for its booms and its echoes. But that night the plant WEM Hi-Watt amp and did the miracle, powerful sound and present as he had never heard and in all orders of seats (the indoor stadium was packed). The Hammond was an angry lion that roared at the hands of John Evan, jumping from one side of the stage. Martin Barre, who sometimes was taken from "rapture" sudden, braced his Gibson Les Paul "screaming" like never before. Ian threw his flute in the air, higher and higher, and resumed as if it were taught. Jeffrey went up and down on stage like a caged animal. Barrymore was the only one who, while playing with great energy, kept a kind of ironic control. "

"A complete soundboard recording from 1984. The recording seems to be taken from Dylan's monitor mix, since the vocals dominate a bit more than anything else. Nevertheless, the music comes through loud and clear, and the upfront vocals only serve to highlight what a passionate vocal performance this is. A 'must have' disc from a period that is under-represented in most collections. This is a crystal clear soundboard. The audience is virtually non-existent. The songs that Dylan performs solo(acoustic) are a perfect blend of voice and instrument. Simple Twist Of Fate is one of the highlights worth mentioning. Bob pours himself into it as never before, and becomes the actor. When You Gonna Wake Up has all new lyrics. Dylan's vocal sound is extraordinarily clear and defined, and his lyrical improvisations are on dazzling display. The performance as a whole is a joy to behold. A wonderful set! "Live At Paleur is a soundboard recording taken from Dylan's 1984 tour of Europe. It captures a highly enjoyable performance from Dylan and his Mick Taylor-fronted band. This recording sets Dylan's vocals way out in front but I personally enjoy that mix. The band are a little buried on some of thew songs and there are occasional echoes on the vocals but if you don't mind these things then this is a great recording. It'd give and 8 or an 8.5 out of 10. Dylan sings most of the songs in the confident, swaggering style that characterised many of live performances in the 1980's. While this style is certainly not my favourite of Bob's "vocal characters", it works to good effect on many of the songs here. One thing that cannot be disputed is that 'Live At Palaeur' is a much better document of this tour than the patchy official release 'Real Live'. Ballad Of A Thin Man on 'Real Live' is a horrible, rushed parody of the song that appeared on 'Highway 61 Revisited'. Here Ballad... is one of the highlights of the set. The versions of Maggies Farm, Masters Of War and Tombstone Blues on this release also put their Real Live incarnations to shame. Other highpoints include the brilliant, rewritten Tangled Up In Blue, an interesting post-Gospel rewrite of When You Gonna Wake Up? ("When you gonna wake up? maybe you never will"), a passionate I & I and a beautiful performance of Every Grain Of Sand, which was still a relatively new song at that time. It's clear that Bob's having fun when he lets the audience sing on the chorus of Times They Are A-Changin' and Blowin' In The Wind. All in all, this is a highly entertaining show and I don't hesitate in giving it my stamp of approval (for whatever that's worth...) "

"Rather than just paste the first 8 songs onto the BBC show, I thought I'd build a complete mix of all three sources. This allows the mix to have a similar sound throughout, making it less of a cut and paste job. The BBC source was also fairly sterile - adding the AUD sources overtop livens it up ;-) The result is a pretty choice show I think, certainly worth a grab. Here's what was done to each of the three recordings"
Wilatw's source:
- Heavy EQ to make it sound more like the top end of the BBC show.
- Amplify and add some missing low end and vocals.
Martinick's source:
- Time adjust to match first source.
- fix about 200 pops and glitches from a bad microphone. By hand, each one.
BBC Source:
- Time adjust to match first source.
The mix was able to:
- Remove the BBC announcer
- Work around several unfixable glitches in Martinick's source, particularly in the intros to songs.
- For the most part, unless working around a glitch or an announcer, the mix is 33% of each source. - The first 8 tracks are 50% of the two AUD sources.
Even without the BBC source this would have been an excellent mix. Adding the the BBC source gives the last 2/3 of the show a bit more body, but doesn't overpower the already great mix made by the other two.

Review taken from "Justin's U2 CD-R Trading Page", run by Justin Cook: "This is a professional bootleg. It was issued on silver CDs and includes color artwork. However, no mention is made of the bootleg label that produced the recording. The only clue lies on the discs, which say "U2 Nurnberg 1997 Part 1" and "U2 Nurnberg 1997 Part 2" along with the codes "U2N 971" and "U2N 972".
Regardless of who pressed this bootleg, the material is famous by now. It is the same earpiece recording that is featured on "Pop Explosion - Music In My Ear". However, this recording does not contain the annoying "pops" between tracks that are on "Pop Explosion...". The bonus tracks are from the earpiece recording of the Hannover concert two days later.

"This was the end of the Progressive Tour (July - August) across the US. The previous night in Mountain View was the last shared bill with Styx; this night was Yes-only. The band filled out the setlist by adding Steve's acoustic solo, debuting Into The Storm, and adding Machine Messiah. Tempus Fugit began with Steve energetically jumping up and down to count out the start. The crowd was completely engaged throughout the show, which fed the band to give a great performance. Humphreys is a high stage with the speaker cabinets placed under the front of the stage rather than stacked on the sides. Sound levels in the third row were pretty high so there is not much in way of dynamics or stereo separation in this recording. This was my first night using the Mikey/iPhone combination that I was able to capture a full concert. A little capsule handling noise is present here and there.
This is definitely an audience recording. The audience was really into this show, a few times to the point of distraction as your can hear. For some reason Californians seem to have an urge to blurt out their feelings to complete strangers. When Benoit is introducing "And You And I" and mentions it is from 1972, the woman in front shouts "Class of '72!". I was afraid that she was going to describe her whole high school career in finite detail to everyone within six rows. As the majesty of the song unfolds, however, she quietens. All in all, the crowd was either up on their feet clapping along and whooping, or sitting and listening intently. They responded with sustained cheers for the encore. "Shane Alexander opened, followed by Styx, then Yes. This seat location had a good mix of stage monitors and PA so the recording has more depth compared to the San Diego show. No nearby talkers in this show, just a few whoopers, but there is plenty of crowd noise audible in the quieter passages. Several times during the show Steve gave the evil eye to some talkers right in front of him, and at one point he mentions "so some of your *are* listening!". Enjoy, vin2010.

"Bono is definitely having vocal trouble and is clearly not feeling well at this show and asks the crowd to help him get through it several times. Not an awful show, but not a great one either. It is interesting to hear Bono get through a show when he is obviously sick. The IEM of this show was traded without consent a LONG time ago but still managed to stay somewhat uncirculated by some miracle. But it became known through a third party that it was being shopped for trades by a particular person without asking. She became known for doing this and similar types of things quite frequently. Based on the “source” of the SLC 01 soundboard recording this upload will make sense to those in the know. Again, thanks for the SLC soundboard upload! It is a very nice recording. The show was obviously traded quite heavily, even more than I thought by the source (makes you wonder how much jeopardy that Delta Center employee’s job was really in! ;) ). I’m sure some of you will bitch about this upload. Thanks! You make it easier to possibly not share anything further. To the rest of you, thanks for your support, maybe something else will get shared if things calm down and there is not the usual vocal minority bitching. Too many IEMs from the 2010/11 tour are being uploaded drawing lots of attention all over for the 360 tour. May not happen but scrambled or encrypted IEM signals are a possibility as a result of that. U2’s crew have recently added the “fan cam” again which was used on Vertigo to basically bust tapers. You do the math. So we are not going to contribute to that kind of attention any further for now, especially 360 shows. We want to do what we can to ensure this type of recording can still be captured in the future and at least on the rest of this tour. Some people have way too many “demands” and are way too impatient on here also. It is just not worth it. If a true uncirculated soundboard or IEM that we do not already have is uploaded we may reconsider our position. By uncirculated I mean a show that several dozen people (if not more) are not already in possession of like SLC 01 was. "Both recordings have issues. The audience source was very distant and lacked a lot of high end. There is some stray audience clapping/talking but nothing too distracting. The IEM recording was recorded in mono with the volume to high causing it to be slightly overloaded or “hot” on the high end. This can still be heard in the matrix as there is not much you can do to alleviate it completely. The IEM was a very clean recording in that there were very few static bursts or flares. There are fades at the end of Stay and the beginning of Bad due to a disc change for the IEM recording; some music is lost as a result. Using Audio Lab 12, I matrixed the recordings to get them to sync up reasonably well. I put the IEM higher in the mix just because that’s how I personally prefer it. I brought up the bass slightly on both recordings. The second half of my IEM CDR seems to be a slightly lower volume, I tried to adjust it to make it the same as the first half, but the first half (up to Stay) still sounds a bit more overloaded or crisp, if that makes sense. That’s basically it; I did not add a lot or take away much. You can only do so much with the material you have to work with and I wasn’t going to waste a lot of time trying to fine tune this show. Combining the audience recording was the best option due to the overload on the IEM feed. Typically I do a layering matrixing technique when re mastering mono or single feed IEMs and an audience source is not necessary most of the time for my taste. The IEM brings out the details in Bono’s vocal and the instruments that were not as present in the audience recording and the audience recording helps alleviate some of the IEM overload and gives it a fuller sound. Overall I think it is a better listening experience combined. I could not find the audience taper info here or in my own records. If they are still out there and have a problem being part of this matrix please PM The Phog or myself." CPT (MB)

"Here is a monitor mix (mono) from the Vapor Trails tour. Monitor mixes are sent wirelessly to each band member, who listen through an earpiece. It's not clear to me if the source is directly from the soundboard or if it was intercepted by a scanner, but my best guess is the latter. While the sound is mono (indicative of scanners), the sound is consistently clear and fuller than I'd expect from a scanner source. Regardless, this is an absolutely superb recording of Rush on their Vapor Trails tour. The original source has been remastered and the new sound is very clear with nice depth and punch. While the low end isn't nearly as bottomless as "Rio" you can hear every detail here (including Geddy's impromtu cough in the first verse of "Limelight"). One of the nice things about this show is the band were playing their "B" setlist, which included "Between Sun And Moon", "Vital Signs", "Ceiling Unlimited" and the Monty Python break at end of "Big Money" (instead of The Simpsons). If you're looking for a great sounding show from this tour, definitely check this out! (Ant - Audio - 9.5)

"What other band would think of cooking chicken on stage? What a great show! Unfortunately PNC has perhaps the world's most horrible accoustics for recording music. At least this is my experience. While the show was great, the band and the audience both had amazing energy throughout the show, it is unfoftunately not expressed in this recording. When compared to others recordings from this tour, this might be rated in the bottom rung. In my area of the venu there was a ton of talking, especislly the bitch who was in front of me, and is easily recognized durig the first third of the show. Also my mic line was literally stepped on during the first set by my neighbors who did not know what I was doing until the incident. But, all things said, this is an enjoyably recording by fans and those who attended the show."

"The most famous of the five nights at Earls Court, largely because it has long been available in a near complete soundboard recording. The many releases used a combination of the video soundtrack and a proper soundboard source tape. However this was incomplete, running for only 180 minutes. Several years ago Celebration released the 4CD Odysseus, which should and could have been much better. More soundboard tape was used (in Dazed and Confused and for Moby Dick), but there were still gaps in the acoustic section which should have been filled by the audience source. Recently however even more of the soundboard source tape appeared, and this was used by Watch Tower for their 4CD release To Be A Rock And Not To Roll. The gaps were carefully filled with an excellent audience tape. Unfortunately, like so many of Watch Tower's releases, this was again spoilt by numerous digital 'clicks' and 'ticks'. Empress Valley rush released the 4CD He Must Be Dazed And Confused to counteract this. The sound quality is similar to Watch Tower, perhaps a very small improvement, but the big gain is in the strength of Robert Plant's voice, which is much louder and clearer in this new version. Again the gaps have been filled with an excellent audience tape."

"This release is undoubtably the most important and exciting release of an Earls Court concert for a very long time. A virtually complete soundboard source tape has been discovered, and used to dramatic effect. In fact the sound quality rivals the previous night, it is simply superb. Again the gaps have been filled with the audience tape (the end of No Quarter and parts of the acoustic section are missing from the soundboard and have been filled with the audience recording). Thank goodness Empress Valley did not repeate their complete howler as they did for the New York 29th July 1973 soundboard release (Grand Finale), by using the previous night's soundboard to fill the gaps. Therefore this last night, all 222 minutes of it, is destined to become a classic, much sought after by fans. Wishing to capitalize on this Empress Valley subsequently released the last night as a seperate 4CD set called The Zeppelin Express Physical Rocket."

"There was a power failure at the Mobile Broadcast Unit (at the venue) in the middle of track 11 (Empire) causing a two minutes break during transmission: the song stops abruptly, followed by 15 seconds of complete silence that were in turn followed by two minutes of radio jingles, then having the song resuming by surprise. To preserve broadcast integrity I included those "silence" and radio jingles as track 11b, thus the song "Empire" is actually divided into parts a-b-c : it's up to you to decide if downloading/burning track 11b as well.... (and then there is another short, 2 seconds, broadcast gap at the beginning of track 12). Warning: in italian radio customes the DJ speaks a lot in-between songs. And I mean a lot. His/Her purpose is to introduce songs with bits of bio and translate what the artists say, or to describe to radio listeners what's happening on stage.It may gets very annoying, and trust me it does, thus we might consider this recording Only for completists. But the songs, the actual music, are (usually) not spoken over in the middle of them. It has to be noted that italian djs are on the whole adviced to talk that much by the same record companies to prevent bootlegging."
