First concert of the October Tour!! Great to start wit with a ahout,
Some boy songs appear on this setlist..I think this is a rare list of songs.
Good to hear that bono sings very different lyrics to the October songs.
According to Bono, in the book "U2 by U2" "Then in the middle of making this album (October) we play Slane Castle with Thin Lizzy, the biggest open-air gig in Ireland, and we decide to play the new songs that we're working on that we've never played before. But not only that, we decide to play them first."
It was like Bono had forgetten the lyrics to the Boy songs, which is mysterious
since he only performed them at least 2-3 months before.

The Pinkpop material is a very good broadcast, but a tad harsh on the high
end. The Toad's Place material is a good audience recording that sounds
like it plays too fast. Excellent recording of one of U2's first "big
shows"! The avid fan gets goosebumps to hear Bono proclaim "We are U2,
have you heard of us?" Just before an awesome performance of "I Will
Follow." Also includes the first live performance of "Fire."

Geetarz Comments: DVD-R2 sourced from perfect VHS. There are several versions of this show in circulation, at least one other is sourced from a higher generation VHS source and recorded on +R media with nicely done menu screens. This version has no menus but is in excellent quality directly from a master VHS! Widely considered to be one of Eric Clapton's finest blues performances of the decade of the 80s on "Little Red Rooster", but it was John Lee Hooker who tore the place down!

While Mick and Keith conducted their own private Cold War, the Stones were off the road for seven years. Thus, the Steel Wheels US tour of 1989 met with feverish anticipation. By Atlantic City, they'd played to 3.2 million people, grossing $97 million; a pay-TV cablecast was watched by a further three million. Guests on stage included Izzy Stradlin, John Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton and Axl Rose.

Plant barks aggressively as the band races through an explosive Train Kept a Rollin'.
Bonzo forgets some of the breaks during Nobody's Fault But Mine, robbing the song of its dynamic tension. Plant's voice is a bit rough during In the Evening, he has trouble reaching some of the higher notes. The Rain Song is fantastic. As the song ends, Plant attempts to calm the rowdy crowd so Bonzo can introduce Hot Dog. Following All My Love, Plant announces "this is one we must dedicate to Phil Carson of Atlantic Records who, if he doesn't get his shit together shortly, will be... Trampled Underfoot." Bonzo mistakenly plays through the break following the guitar solo. Plant asks the crowd to stop pushing forward prior to a lackluster Since I've Been Loving You. As the song comes to a close, Bonzo can be heard shouting "be quiet, you cunt!" at the impatient crowd. The band plods through an uninspired Achilles Last Stand. Page gets a bit lost in the arrangement toward the end of the song. Plant delivers a powerful performance during Kashmir. Stairway to Heaven features an excellent guitar solo. Bonzo fumbles through the drum outburst at the end of Rock and Roll. The band closes the show with a violent Communication Breakdown. As the song ends, Plant announces "thank you, it's nice to be... back, goodnight." A rather uninspired performance overall.

The tape is another excellent soundboard recording, briefly augmented by a fairly clear audience source.
