This is a transfer from VHS released in 1984. Were also created menus and used a bit of noise reduction and eq. The original VHS cover was converted and restored, which is also included in this upload. The main reasons for putting this compilation to DVD was to have digitized versions of Vital Signs, The Body Electric and Countdown which for some reason chronicles omitted! This is one of the lesser known Rush video's, released in 1984, a year later put on a laser-disc but we still have to wait on a DVD release. It's the era that Rush looked like dressmen on the catwalk, especially the handsome Alex.
The music turned into more swinging and the trio blended styles like ska, reggae and new wave into their early Eighties 'powerprog', obviously influenced by The Police.
One of the highlights is the final part of the swinging composition Vital Signs, very compelling with a soaring synthesizer sound, propulsive guitar riffs on a white Fender Stratocaster and dynamic drumming, a very captivating and distinctive Rush sound in the mid-Eighties!
"Review: This video collection from Rush showcases some of the most brilliant work in their history. One of the best aspects of this collection is that most of the songs recieved little if, any airplay. So it is a great opportunity to see and hear some truly creative work from one of the world's best,(and most underrated) rock bands. Highpoints of the collection include The Body Electric and The Enemy Within from the Grace Under Pressure album and Vital Signs from the Moving Pictures album .But the finest work in this collection is Countdown from the Signals album. The band wrote the song in honor of the space shuttle Columbia's first liftoff and the video has excellent scenes from the launch. "

"First, Thanks to the tapers, for without whom, we wouldn't be enjoying this fine sounding show! The IEM is nearly flawless, it does have a few flaws here and there, not bad at all, very listenable.
The masseygo source is low in the mix because it has some distortion on it.
I did a bit of eq on all sources, not much on the IEM, it didn't need much.
This differs from the source used on the Brussels Multi-cam, because, somehow,
some of my original files got corrupted and then bedoc's recording showed up,
so I decided to add that in and redo it. I don't even have a copy of my 3-source matrix that some people have.
The Bonus tracks are all you will ever hear from the Rome Matrix, so please don't ask for more, the IEM had a lot of interference."

Comments:
Amazing! When we came home with my friend, we "prayed" for a good bootleg and here it is! Nice sound, clear and strong. Drums are very listenable, Bono's voice is strong and the guitars are allright. High and bass too. Almost soundboard quality, one of the bests!
Overall: Extra speciall show with the mistakes and this made Vienna Night unique!

Comments: It's not on the printed setlist, but U2 does a bit of Love Rescue Me in honor of Bob Dylan, who's 70 years old today. Dylan co-wrote and performed that song on Rattle And Hum. Bono then leads the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to Dylan.
Before Beautiful Day, Bono brings three sisters on stage and joins them in reciting a poem about Utah. This poem is called Utah and is by Minnie Hardy.
Here’s the poem:

Secret U2 concert: Somerville Theatre fingered http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif
Reports of roadies unloading trucks behind the Somerville Theatre seem to confirm earlier conjecture that U2 will play the Davis Square haunt. Space Rogue tweets here, "Streets closed, no parking, big trucks, police, etc."
As previously reported in Loaded Gun, Somerville Theatre has been fingered as the likely venue. However, the historic Davis Square locale continues to insist that it's not hosting the band. An "anonymous" source claims that those lucky enough to snag a spot at the show will first meet with label execs and then will be taken to the "surprise venue" in a bus. So, where they're meeting is not where u2 will perform. Because it's an anonymous source, it's pure conjecture.
Also, the Boston Herald reports here that 50 Somerville cops have been enlisted to patrol U2's reported club gig at the Somerville Theatre.
As previously reported in Loaded Gun, U2 is orchestrating a mini-tour to promote the upcoming release of “No Line on the Horizon.”
Called “U2 3 Nights Live,” Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen, Jr. and Adam Clayton will play three back-to-back shows in three different U.S. cities—first in Los http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifAngeles on Monday, March 9, then Chicago on Tuesday, March 10—hitting Boston the following day.
The show in Boston will feature a live performance (a four-song set writes Mark Shanahan from the Globe) coupled with an audience Q&A session. The “U2 3 Nights Live” concert is slotted to be delivered via ABC Satellite Services and Westwood One.
Odds are good that the “secret show” in Boston will attract max capacity. Don’t fret. They're playing Gillette Stadium on September 20.

"Wow, if you though E2E was good, check this recording out. It actually sounds better if you can believe it. All the instruments are extremely clear and you can hear all the little nuances very clearly. Geddy's voice can get a little buried at times, but not enough that it would be distracting. Geddy has a lot of fun with the synths tonight as he adds a lot of subtle differences to the songs, almost like he is experimenting with it on stage. It makes for some very interesting variations on some classic Rush anthems. A very highly recommend show, really it should be a must have."

This fantastic show from the Canadian leg of the Hemispheres tour has only surfaced recently.
The sound quality is amazing, even by today’s standards. Everything is crystal clear, and you can really hear all the nuances, especially in the guitar. The performance is stellar, featuring a phenomenal version of A Farewell To Kings. This disc fixes a 2- second delay between tracks that occurred on some copies of the original "Rocinante" CD.
