The crowd was excited for this show and a better behaved to my left, not quite as well to my right. The recording came out really well. This band puts on a good show (IMHO) and they performed well according to the gentlemen sitting to my left who has been to 12 Tull shows since 69'. Enjoy...and... "Really would mind if I sat this one out.  With those words (or perhaps it was the correct lyrics) from the concert’s opening song, “Thick as a Brick,”  so began an evening with Jethro Tull on their Aqualung 40th Anniversary tour which played at Comerica Theater in Phoenix on Friday night. Gauging from the grey hair, canes and waist lines found in the audience (I’m surprised there was no AARP discount), ninety five percent of them were teenagers when Aqualung was released back in 1971.  However, the nearly sold out audience appreciated Jethro Tull’s indulgence of them living in the past.
Led by flautist/acoustic guitarist/lead vocalist/showman/jester Ian Anderson, Jethro Tull delivered a tight, two hour with intermission, set.  True to their promise, Jethro Tull did play all the songs off the Aqualung album, just not in order.  There were the  acoustic couplings of “Cheap Day Returns," “Mother Goose,” and Wond’ring Aloud” and the expected back to back renditions of “My God,” and “Hymn 43.” However, “Cross Eyed Mary,” closed the first set while the band rocked the audience back to life opening the second set with “Aqualung.”  The encore, as is standard In Tull shows, closed the night with “Locomotive Breath,” with some snippets of “Teacher” thrown in for good measure." "This is the previously unreleased matrix version of this great show.  This 4 channel matrix is a definite upgrade from the previously released stereo version as it has a much more full sound and even better quality!
This was a great show in a beautiful venue with excellent sound.  The crowd was pumped for this show but not outrageously loud.  There were times where you could hear a pin drop.  Ian's voice just kept getting better and better and I was very surprised by how good it was.  Not sure why I was expecting to be off a bit but he didn't struggle at all.  The band were tight and obviously well seasoned and Ian's banter with the audience was comfortable and not forced at all.
It's interesting to see how much Jethro Tull varied their set list at this show from a couple of other recent recordings that are out.  Not just the order but also, some of the songs have not showed up lately.  All in all, this is a great capture (just a bit shy of being a SUPerb capture) of a great show.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It was also interesting to see that Ian took out his right IEM everytime before he played the flute and then slipped it back in to sing or play the guitar.  I guess he wanted to be able to hear his flute live as he was playing or perhaps, as someone mentioned, it may have just been too shrill coming through the IEM."

This is the DVD 1 of the Cosmic Energy release of all of the 16 and 19 mm footage in circulation at the moment. Lots of people are hunting down a working DVD 2 at the moment so please be patient and i'll get it up here as soon as.
Quality varies a great deal, most is great with clear visual and synced audio some is silent but as a document this stands well above any other releases i've seen. No song separation, only chapters.
Animated great menu.

This interview with Robert Plant and band manager Peter Grant was uniquely conducted during a
boat-trip down the famous Thames River.

Chicago Illinois (04-09-77)
The fifth night of the tour. Page fails ill stopping the concert. Close but blurry footage with actual
sound. Well worth watching for historic purposes. Listen as Plant explains to a beffudled audience why they are stopping the show early.

Chicago Illinois (04-10-77)
Page is captured with his famous "stormtrooper" outfit. Full stage shot with synchronized sound makes it very pleasurable to watch.

Birmingham Alabama (05-18-77)
A hight commodity video back in the mid 1980s. Footage with actual sound filmed stage left.

Baton Rouge Louisiana - Silent footage (05-19-77)
Arguably the best document of the band from this tour. Silent footage with fantastic stage shots. Also includes footage of the "Starship" arriving at the airport and the band is seen shuffling out. This film was unfortunately dirty or damaged when processed leaving a swarm of particles  on the transfer, most noticeably during the brighter moments of the footage.

Taper Notes: "This was a special show in Nashville, where the band had not played since 1981. Especially cool was the appearance of "The Wanderer," with Bono doing his best Johnny Cash impression for most of it. The overwhelming highlight of the show, however, was the "Blind Guitar Player" that Bono pulled onstage after "Moment of Surrender." The man plays "All I Want Is You," dedicating it to his wife, Andrea. It was a very emotional moment and the utmost in cool. And, in a stunning bit of goodwill, Bono gave the man his guitar! I am sure everyone has seen the videos of this on Youtube so you know how special this was. The bass was kinda strong at the stadium. This is the raw recording, which is very similar in sound to the Miami show. I am not sure about the bass, though. If the bass is too heavy, can someone with the proper skills reduce it and re-post? I might just be imagining this, though. Please let me know your thoughts."

"This is just the second U2 concert ever in Nashville, 29 years and 7 months after the first. It is also the first U2 concert anywhere in the state of Tennessee since 14 May 1997,
Memphis. The snippet of The Wanderer is quite lengthy, running to two verses. At the end of the show, Bono pulls a member of the crowd on stage to play guitar; he performs All I Want Is You with the band, dedicating it to his wife."(u2gigs)

All I Want is You was a "Grand Finale" in a way that only U2 can do, inviting a blind guy to the stage to play guitar and after the song finished, Bono gives the guy his green Gretsch, as a gift. I guess every U2 fan feels giften too. You can download "All I Want is You" through a link in the song name, as a sample.

A lot of people were wearing tour shirts because of this. WDRV-FM is the classic rock station in Chicago and is well liked. This recording came out much better than the America set did. So kick back, wav that flaag, turn it up and happy 4th of July!(...)

"Released at Feb. 25, 2005, under the new RUSH specialized label CYGNUS, from the bootlegger who runs Ayanami, Langley, Masterport, Sirene, Power Gate, Reel Master etc. This title is the first CYGNUS release. Recorded at Jan. 18, 1997, Civic Center, Pensacola, FL. Four days prior to the opening night at the same venue. Almost complete (missing latter half of YYZ) run through rehearsal like "Echoes on the Stages" released in 2002 and the sound quality of this recording is MUCH better than that. Just INCREDIBLE. Could listen to LOTS of funny talk, misplays and fake plays with excellent sound. Also could listen to the CP version of Distant Early Warning. "I just finished listening to this & what else to say but WOW!! Phenominal recording of the guys in action with all the bugs being worked out before our ears. Funny thing about Alex. As with Echoes On The Stages, he has a hard time getting the string selection right at the start of CTTH. Even as many times as he's played that song, at least during rehersals, he starts off wrong.
